3 Ways Independent Artists can DIY Digital Marketing
Hey Independent Artists! We see you! We’re Messiah and Maverick and we’re going to give you 3 ways you can DIY digital marketing. Don’t get us wrong, we know it’s hard, but there are some things you can do to really help yourself and give you that “something something” if you know what I mean. We’ll focus on Instagram for this one, but these principles can be loosely applied to all forms of socials. As much as we don’t want to admit it, social media does make the world go round (kind of) and can really be beneficial when looking for exposure.
Finding your Brand is a thing!
Firstly, and possibly one of the most important things is to create your online aura, your brand. One of the ways you can do this is by using hashtags specifically relating to you. You can make these up - usually, a play on words works best and is the most appealing to audiences. By doing this, you create your own bubble of sorts and allow your audience to follow your journey and connect through the hashtags.
Speak your Truth
The second thing you can do is to start an online segment, that you carry on throughout the course of your journey. The best thing about this is that you can tie this in with your passion or passions. Find a way to combine your music with topics you’re interested in and make it relevant to your audience. People respond to authenticity and trust us, they can smell ingenuity from miles away! Be honest, open, and speak from the heart. For example, some artists resonate with a bumpy start but come out the other side stronger and better for it. Others prioritize self-care and can talk about it for hours (like us) so why not engage your audience? Use your IGTV, IG Live, and IG Reels features to your advantage and start sharing your story. When you’re you, people notice!
Keep Those Gains Going
Lastly, keep your engagement up! How, do you ask? Well, by using your stories feature, of course! There is a lot you can share on your stories from everyday life and your musical journey, to all sorts of different relevant content. You can use many things to your advantage - like having meme Mondays! Who wouldn’t tune in to your profile to participate? Once you’ve created your brand, you’ll know the kind of content you want to share and engage with and you can create an audience that wants the same! If you’re interested in self-care, for argument’s sake, then you can start a conversation about the products in the industry that aren’t clean (just an example, of course). There’s a lot to talk about and you’d be surprised at how many people also share your views. The best thing is to keep it light, real, but passionate. Once you’ve mastered this combo, you’ll have a winner on your hands for sure! And if it takes a little more work, well then, join the club!
